บ้านต้นไม้ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก

บ้านหลังนี้ ตั้งอยู่ที่ Alnwick Garden ใน Northumberland County ทางตอนเหนือของเมือง Newcastle ไป 50 ไมล์ ด้วยขนาดพื้นที่ใหญ่ถึง 6,000 ตารางฟุต จึงนับเป็นบ้านต้นไม้ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในโลกไป เป็นบ้านต้นไม้แบบผสม คือโครงสร้างหลักทั้งหมดตั้งอยู่บนพื้น สร้างล้อมต้นไม้หลายๆต้นเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน และใช้โครงสร้างเป็นไม้ทั้งหมด ทั้ง Canadian Cedar, Scandinavian Redwood และ English and Scots pine รวมทั้งวัสดุก่อสร้างอื่นๆ ก็เป็นวัสดุธรรมชาติ

Alnwick Garden สร้างบ้านต้นไม้นี้ขึ้นมา แต่ก็ไม่ได้ใช้งานเป็นบ้านอยู่อาศัย เพียงแต่เรียกชื่อว่าบ้านต้นไม้ตามลักษณะของมัน เขาสร้างเพื่อใช้เป็นที่รองรับกิจกรรมต่างๆ ของผู้มาเที่ยวสวน นอกจากตัวกระท่อมแล้ว ยังมี ห้องค้นคว้าข้อมูลที่เพียบพร้อมด้วยอุปกรณ์ที่ทันสมัยล่าสุดทุกชนิด 2 ห้องคือ the Nest และ the Roost โดยจัดเป็นโปรแกรมเสริมการเรียนรู้สำหรับเยาวชน ทั้งทางด้าน วิทยาศาสตร์ ศิลปะ สุขอนามัย โดยเฉพาะทางธรรมชาติคือโลกของต้นไม้ ให้เด็กได้เรียนรู้ธรรมชาติ อย่างสนุกสนาน

โครงสร้างที่รับตัวบ้าน เป็นแบบพิเศษ มีฐานคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก (ซ่อนหลบอยู่ใต้ดิน) รับกลุ่มตอม่อ 8ท่อน ที่แผ่กระจายไปรับคานบ้านอีกทีหนึ่ง ส่วนเสาบ้านก็มาตั้งอยู่บนปลายคาน เป็นวิธีการท่สลับซับซ้อน ดูแปลกตา แต่ค่าก่อสร้างก็แพงตามความยุ่งยากไปด้วย

นอกจากนี้ ในอนาคตทาง Alnwick Garden ยังมีแผนที่จะสร้าง ส่วนผจญภัยในดงไม้เพิ่มเติม เพื่อเป็นสวนสนุก สำหรับเด็กๆทั้งหลาย ที่จะต้องออกแบบเป็นพิเศษ โดยเฉพาะเรื่องมาตรฐานความปลอดภัยของอุปกรณ์ในการเล่น เช่นสะพานเชือกเขาวงกต ทางเดินลอยฟ้า หุบผาธรรมชาติจำลอง และส่วนที่ออกแบบพิเศษสำหรับเด็กเล็ก และเด็กพิการ รองรับเด็กๆและผู้ปกครองได้ถึง 1,000 คน

ถนนสายไม้ ซอยประชานฤมิตร

ในปี 2522 ชาวจีนจากวัดญวน สะพานขาว ถนนดำรงรัก สะพานดำ วัดสระเกศและบางลำพู ได้ย้ายมาตั้งถิ่นฐานใหม่ในซอยประชานฤมิตรและซอยไสวสุวรรณโดยนำอาชีพเดิมมา ด้วยคือ งานแกะสลักเครื่องไม้
ด้วยฝีมือที่ประณีตสวยงามและมีการสืบทอดมาโดยตลอด จึงทำให้บ้านเกือบทุกหลังในซอยนี้มีอาชีพแกะสลักงานเครื่องไม้ และกลายเป็นแหล่งชุมนุมโรงงานผลิตเครื่องตกแต่งไม้สำเร็จรูป แม้ว่างานส่วนใหญ่จะใช้เครื่องจักรผลิต แต่งาน แกะสลักไม้ ที่เป็นลวดลายไทยก็ยังคงต้องใช้แรงงานฝีมือ
นอกจากนี้ยังรับผลิตงานตามสั่ง โดยราคาจะขึ้นอยู่กับความยากง่ายของชิ้นงาน สินค้าที่นี่จะมีราคาถูกกว่าท้องตลาดทั่วไปถึงร้อยละ 30 เพราะเป็นแหล่งผลิตโดยตรงและเป็นศูนย์รวมสินค้าจากแหล่งผลิตอื่น รวมทั้งผลิตภัณฑ์ไม้ยางจากโรงงานต่างๆ ฯลฯ
ปัจจุบันมีร้านค้าเรียงรายอยู่สองฝั่งถนมากกว่า 200 ร้าน จำหน่ายตั้งแต่ของตกแต่งบ้านเล็กๆ ไปจนถึงเฟอร์นิเจอร์ขนากใหญ่ ถือเป็นแหล่งรวมเครื่องตกแต่งไม้ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในประเทศไทยจนได้รับการขนาน นามว่า “ถนนเฟอร์นิเจอร์”

นอกจากนี้ยังรับผลิตงานตามสั่ง โดยราคาจะขึ้นอยู่กับความยากง่ายของชิ้นงาน สินค้าที่นี่จะมีราคาถูกกว่าท้องตลาดทั่วไปถึง
ร้อยละ 30 เพราะเป็นแหล่งผลิตโดยตรงและเป็นศูนย์รวมสินค้าจากแหล่งผลิตอื่นรวมทั้งผลิตภัณฑ์ไม้ยางจากโรงงานต่างๆ ฯลฯ
ปัจจุบันมีร้านค้าเรียงรายอยู่สองฝั่งถนน มากกว่า 200 ร้าน จำหน่ายตั้งแต่ของตกแต่งบ้านเล็กๆ ไปจนถึงเฟอร์นิเจอร์ขนากใหญ่
ถือเป็นแหล่งรวมเครื่องตกแต่งไม้ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในประเทศไทย จนได้รับการขนานนามว่า ถนนเฟอร์นิเจอร์

A UNIQUE, BUT PRETTY LOOKING LAMP.
I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY BEDROOM. IT DOES NOT GIVE OFF A LOT OF LIGHT, WHICH IS PART OF WHY I BOUGHT IT. IT WAS EASY TO ASSEMBLE AND LOOKS GOOD. I ALSO LIKE THE FACT THAT IT HAS A SWITCH CONNECTED TO THE CORD, INSTEAD OF A TURN KNOB. MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT IT IS FLIMSY, THAT’S WHY I GAVE IT FOUR STARS INSTEAD OF FIVE.

A great addition to any room
This is an absolutely beautiful lamp. I love the lighter bamboo pattern on the fabric! Just a couple of comments, though. The lamp can only hold up to a 25 watt bulb, which means it will always be fairly dim. Also, the cord hangs down from the center of the bottom of the lantern, which detracts slightly from the overall appearance. Still, I would certainly recommend this lamp to anyone, keeping those things in mind.
